September 2014 Soldiers of the Month

Happy Labor Day! For our last Soldier of the Month feature, we have attempted to list the many awesome people and organizations who have helped Jillian with her fight over the last year and two months who have not had a Soldier of the Month honor. You can read the latest Soldier of the Month article by visiting jilliansarmy.com. Her family believes that the love and support they have received has contributed to how well Jillian has done with these incredibly harsh treatments. Speaking of her treatments, there really aren’t specialized treatments for kids with cancer. The treatment is basically adult strength chemo at about 75% of the normal adult dose. A majority of these drugs were developed in the 1970s or 1980s.

**Stepping on soapbox**
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Our kids deserve better. Adult strength treatments discovered 30-40 years ago aren’t good enough and neither is the 3.8% that the Federal Government gives toward research of Pediatric Cancers. In the United States, 46 kids are diagnosed daily with cancer and 7 die. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for children. It accounts for more deaths than Pediatric AIDS, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, asthma, and juvenile diabetes COMBINED. This month, please inform someone of the seriousness of Childhood Cancer. As CIC Momma has posted before, she wants to see as much GOLD in September as we see pink in October. Her message is simple – Be Bold Go Gold.

Thank you to all of the Jillian’s Army troops for your love and support of Jillian. The fight isn’t over as she finishes her treatment at home, and then has end of treatment scans later this month. This month that is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Jillian is worth more than 3.8%. All of our kids are.

SALUTE!!
-COPA Aunt Paula
